30% Deposit + 70% Before Shipping: Why This Payment Structure Protects Buyers

Full payment upfront is the biggest red flag in custom sourcing. Here's how staged payment with QC photo approval keeps both sides honest — and why it works in the buyer's favor.

If you've sourced custom products overseas, you've met the two extremes. One supplier demands 100% upfront. Another promises “payment after delivery” — then disappears when the goods disappoint. Both models put all the risk on one side of the table.

The structure we use at WOW 777.shopping — a 30% deposit to start production, and the remaining 70% only after you approve photos of your finished goods — is designed to keep both sides honest. Here's why it works in the buyer's favor.

Your deposit funds materials, not a vacation.

A 30% deposit covers raw materials and production setup. It's enough that the factory is committed, but not so much that you've lost your leverage. If a supplier insists on 100% before a single unit is made, ask yourself: what incentive do they have to rush your order?

The balance follows evidence, not promises.

Before the 70% is due, you receive QC photos of the actual goods — your logo, your colors, your packaging — not stock images from a catalogue. You approve what you see. If something is wrong, it gets corrected before you pay another cent. Payment happens after verification, which is exactly how it should work in custom manufacturing.

No credit games.

Some buyers worry that “no credit terms” means a supplier is difficult. In practice, the opposite is true: a factory that asks for staged payment with photo confirmation is a factory that plans to deliver. Long credit terms are how trading companies chain themselves to factories they don't control — and when cash flow breaks, orders break with it.

What to demand from any supplier, anywhere:

  • A staged payment structure (30/70 or similar)
  • QC photos of your actual production run, before balance payment
  • Packing confirmation, especially for fragile goods like glassware and stone
  • A written timeline: production days, QC day, ship date

Full payment upfront is the single biggest red flag in custom sourcing. A supplier confident in their quality will happily let the goods speak before you settle the invoice.

That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every order — custom logo products, packaging, glassware, stone — at 777.shopping.
